Learner Support Program

In 2004, as many children were not attending school, members of the Amaoti Community Development Project (an Indlela project) initiated a Back-to-School program. Sponsors were approached to sponsor children so that new school uniforms and equipment could be purchased enabling the children to return to school.

This has transitioned into what we now call the Learner Support Program. Sponsors contribute R200pm and are allocated a learner. This child receives support from our Youth Workers, who were previously unemployed members of the Amaoti community and have been trained to take care of them.

This care includes home visits, provision of school uniforms & shoes, counselling, food parcels, assistance with documentation such as IDs & government grants etc and assistance with school work. We work alongside Social Workers and have our own partly volunteer Social workers. Sponsors receive their learner’s school reports each term.
